Cold and foggy, time to head out.
Traveling north on the Pacific Coast Highway,
US 101, to Pacific City, OR
Lumber moving by train, downtown North Bend, OR
Dunes
Crossing Coos Bay
Lots of water to cross on OLD bridges
Unique bridge supports
Oh no...get out the pretzels again!
Fog's rushing in with the surf
Note fog setting in over the tunnel
Yup..hard to see
More ornate bridge decoration
WOW..look at this coast line
The Oregon coast is just incredible, too bad
it's so foggy
Bridge designs-all unique
Oh boy- a town-I can go shopping
More unique columns on the bridge
I know you want to get there; but,
slow down I can't get a picture...
It's a contest..which bridge do you like?
Finally, we made it to the campground.
426 miles of outstanding scenery
Dry camping in the middle of an asphalt parking lot
Walked to the ocean from the campground
Tides out ..lets walk out to the dunes
Look at that..the rock looks like it doesn't belong here
And then they came---Campers with ATV's,
4 wheeled drive cars and motorcycles,
surrounding us. We found out this is one
of the Meccas for dune running.
The dunes go on for miles.
Surrounded
Ran all day and into the night
ZOOM, ZOOM,
Oh my! Midnight is the cut off time to run!
By the end of the night, all spaces were filled
including camping on the dunes-into the dunes-trucks
pulling trailers across the flats in the loose sand
