Today, we're traveling west around the
lake to Truckee, CA and Donner Pass.
Beautiful day, beautiful lake
Emerald Bay
On top of the island is a "Tea Room"
constructed by Mrs. Lora Knight in 1929 as
part of her "castle" Vikingsholm on the bay.
Here comes the Tahoe Queen, a real Mississippi
sternwheeler
Onward around the lake
Squaw Valley
site of 1960 Winter Olympics
Tough skiing today, just opening up, ski lifts
were not even working
Much smaller area than I imagined-
How did they house all the Olympians here?
Golf course at Squaw Valley
Look beyond the second fence
Toured Donner Pass, museum, and guided
tour of the history of this Pass.
Many, many pioneers made it over the Pass,
the Donner party just had bad luck and poor
planning. Of the 85 in the party, only
42 survived, mostly women and children.
